Hot Botty

This chilly weather has called for my hot water bottle to be unpacked. I made this little fella out of some fleece to up the cuddle-y factor and as I had some lying around.

I'm going to make some more for selling purposes 'cause I like it so much.

Making Things

I'm at that age where people have just started to ask "What do you do?". I hate this question. One year out of school it was "I'm on a gap year!". Two years out of school it was "I'm on a gap year!" (what number gap year is not important). I'm three years out of school now so obviously my age is showing and I can't pull the gap year card anymore. Luckily I've found what I want to do with my life but don't feel comfortable saying "i'm a fashion designer" as real fashion designers might find out and laugh at me, so I tend to tell people that I sew and make stuff and sometimes get money for it. This will without fail lead to them looking me up and down, pointing to something I'm wearing and an "Oh cool, did you make that?". No, I did not sew this Nike hoodie, nor did I cobble this pair of high tops, but I appreciate your overestimating my skills anyway.

So I've vowed to start making and wearing more of my own designs.

Recently my old school had a music evening and I wanted to have something to show when the inevitable question was asked by ex-teachers of mine. I made this little black dress and  felt good about my life:

I had no time to go fabric shopping so had to use some bizarre sparkly, satin-esque material I found in my Big Bag of Fabric and black chiffon.  I'm not a fan of glitter but I quite like how these materials work together, it kind of looks like a starry night.

Feeling Good

This week I quit my job. It was one of the scariest things I've ever done but now I am so happy and I feel so free and excited. Now I can focus on my own projects and just SEW SEW SEW until I can't any more due to exhaustion/bad lighting/foot cramps, then I will go to bed and wake up ready to SEW SEW SEW some more, YAY!

Horse Fever.2

I used this material to make a dress. This is how it looks on my floor:

And this is how it looks on my body:
I'm so happy with it. I wore it the other day and my horse-riding friend says a lot of her horse-riding buds have horse-riding-bags made out of this fabric, always a good sign!

Lappy

New Material for laptop bags.
Cowboys, blue floral, and at the bottom is the lining, it is SO SOFT.

Animal Crackers

I've just realised I have a lot of horse-y items in my life. It would be worrying if I was one of those girls who used to treat the playground like a gymkhana arena, but I actually care very little about actual horses so my love for horse-themed prints is alright, phew!

Horse Fever

New Material: "Horse Fever"

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one

I made my yellow jumpsuit. This is the only halyway decent photo I could manage, please forgive it's terrible quality. I stuck a star on my belly for the party, obviously.
My favourite part is the pockets on the bum

If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good

I've been wanting to make a jumpsuit for myself for a while now and so I'm using a friend's Dr Seuss-themed party as an opportunity. I'm off to get some yellow fabric so I can be a star-bellied sneetch:

I'll post the final product here, if it doesn't turn out too hideous.

redheads ♥

I feel like having long hair again. It feels like it's growing SO slowly. Thankfully I've progressed from the Bon Jovi phase and am officially in the Middle-Hanson-Brother stage. Hopefully soon I'll look like this again ↷

Cape Town Fashion Week

Yesterday CTFW kicked off with the Foschini AFI Fastrack. I had car/wardrobe troubles and found myself having to take the train to town AND wearing takkies, so not fabulous.
The event was great; so much talent and so many beautiful clothes! I went to support the amazingly gifted Thoki Tafeni

Her whole collection was so bold, very tasteful and truly beautiful, and the judges seemed to agree as she was announced as one of the winners!

♡  ♡  ♡

I also really loved the other winner's collection Chelsy Wilson. Her range was cute, fun and young and right up my alley ♡
