PPP: Karin Bubas

What better way to utilise your great art skills than these portraits of Heidi Montag and the rest of the gang from The Hills? Done with pastel on velour by Karin Bubaš

When I used to watch The Hills this guy was my favourite. Look at that beard! What a bad boy.

rock me

My hair has only just become long enough to wear in a pony-tail that looks relatively normal. I thoroughly enjoy tying it high on my head and whipping it about (in private) but when I tie it low I look exactly like Mozart, it's uncanny.

I've been dying to start a collection of busts of composers for a while now (I have very specific desires) and yesterday I came one step closer to achieving this. I spied the pale face of Wolfie in the window of Second Time Around and took him home with me.

He looks spectacular on top of my piano. For the upcoming festive season (Christmas followed by my 21st) I'd like to request this, this and this please friends.

PALE-PASTEL-PRETTY

I've been wanting to do this for a while, we'll see if it works. I'm theming my weeks; centring what I make and share around this theme. Or trying to at least.

This week's theme is: THINGS THAT ARE PALE + PASTEL-Y + LIGHT + AIR-Y + DREAM-Y + PRETTY

aka PALE-PASTEL-PRETTY WEEK

enjoy ♡

dressing room ♥

Today I went to check out Thoki Tafeni's range for Foschini in the Canal Walk store. It's clear by the state of her almost empty rail that her clothes have been popular so I hope they restock it soon :) Here are 2 of her dresses:

Yay! The second one is my favourite, I felt like having a tea party in it

welcome home

This is my favourite advertisement of all time. Every single time I watch it I get goosebumps + teary and so should you.

Being greeted at Heathrow like this, can you imagine! What a treat. I was greeted with a TB scan and the news of Michael Jackson's death (which totally over-shadowed my arrival btw).

The last song ('Welcome Home') always gets me. My dream is to learn it on the piano and welcome my housemates home with it because you're supposed to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

no place like london

Some days I just want to sell everything I own and move back to London. Today is a day like that, kindly bear with me. I think it was sparked off by my finding these lovely prints

Notting Hill Carnival "Who the fuck is this? Surely not Che?"

You got to choose which budgie you trusted most to predict your fortune (fact: you can determine the trustworthiness of a bird by the shape of their beak) and then they picked up a piece of paper and gave it to you. I kept my fortune safe, tucked away in my still-awaiting-publication Gap Yah Journal:

The heavenly gift for you will be a wealth man. Your best friends will envy your happiness but they won't harm you. Your lucky star says: you'll live in happiness and silence, and you'll be his before marriage. You'll inherit a great wealth from an uncle. You'll marry Peter and you'll live 86 years. You'll also have babies.

Those of you who know me will agree this is preeeettttty eerie! Shout out to my best friends for not harming me, and mwa to my wealth man Pete!

dusty

When I was younger I used to tell people I was allergic to Oros 'cause I was a concentrate-juice snob, and I because thought it was cool to say I was allergic to something. Then I went for that allergy test they give you on your wrist and it turned out I was actually just allergic to my two great loves, dogs and dust.

this person has some BEAUTIFUL photographs on their page. These ones in a dusty room are so pretty.
I did a bit of a spring clean in my room which I now deeply regret as I spent the whole of today verging on the brink of death (death by dust allergy). I feel truly horrid. If you have any great allergy remedies please let me know. At the moment I treat it with eye-scratching, nose-rubbing and feeling sorry for myself, but with not much success.

11|11|11 - Corduroy Day

11|11 is annually celebrated for the date which most resembles Corduroy ('Corduroy Appreciation Day'). Incase you didn't know Corduroy is a fabric made up of vertical lines. This year it's an extra special one as it's the year 2011, extremely exciting!

There is a Corduroy Appreciation Club with a very serious-looking website as well as a secret handshake. Membership is through application online and I think it's a 'blood in, blood out' kinda thing but I'm not 100% sure.

According to the Corduroy Appreciation Club one should wear three items of Corduroy on this special day. Three items? I don't even own one. I used to wear a lot of Corduroy in my youth, but that was before I knew any better. One item made its way through to my teen years even, a brown Corduroy blazer. I wore it often, paired with velour items when I was feeling a bit sassy, and jeans + checked takkies for when I was feeling like something of a Rude Boy.

I thought it made me look cool, sleek and elegant like this

or this (if I was feeling extra cool)

but in reality I probably looked more like this

I now know this fabric is disgusting and unsightly but thought I'd search the internet for some Corduroy clothes before I made any sweeping statements. I haven't provided links for any of these items because I just wouldn't feel right promoting them.

These pants have been 'upcycled' (my second-worst word used to describe old clothes, after 're-loved') to look like this, but I don't know why.

Normally emerald green + lizard appliqué is a recipe for success but this really doesn't work and I'm blaming the Corduroy.

These flattering dungarees are made from a velvet/Corduroy blend, simply stunning! I was going to make fun of these but then noticed her obviously orthopaedic shoes and odd stance and now I don't feel right doing it. I will however say this: you know what looks hot? Her crotch. Am I right? It looks super hot there, like, from the Corduroy. There is a solution for this

Horizontal Corduroy is apparently the solution. Another solution is to wear normal clothes.

So if you own something made of this fabric, go on then, be a devil and wear it today. You're probably going to hell anyway.

tweetz

I don't understand Twitter. I try to 'tweet' every now and then but feel like I'm being way too self-indulgent and find it a bit cringe-y. I mainly use Twitter as my cyber newspaper: 5fm DJs Anele + Gareth Cliff (Current Affairs), Helen Zille (Politics), and Jimmy Carr and Noel Fielding (The Funnies). This is the secret to my worldly knowledge and well-roundedness.

I can't remember how but I found this guy and I'm so glad I did because he is a laugh and a half. Here is a selection of tweets for you, hope you enjoy

He is an illustrator from New Zealand and draws very nicely, here is his website. I wanted to put a face to the words but Google Images produced way too many different pictures when I did a search. I like to think he's either this guy

or this guy
