i like your body

Leotards/bodies are the fun-est things you can wear. They're so comfy and make you feel like a dancer, ready for any scenario; high kicks, jumping, even the splits if you're feeling wild/bendy. I just wish they weren't only dress-up-party-appropriate. I'd like to change that!

I love making them too, here's the gold sequinned + extra-sparkly number I made for my 21st

CAN YOU DRAW?

You may be wondering 'Andie, you used to sew things, you used to sell them at markets, you used to put pictures up of things for sale. You haven't for a while, what gives?'

I've taken a bit of a break for a while, due to moving house/saving money for overseas adventures/not having a long enough extension lead to my new desk. However I am planning things, great things! And they'll be coming your way soon, not too soon, but soon-ish/nownow/in a bit.

I've been wondering about the wonderful world of textile design for a while now and want to embark on designing my own fabrics, but I need help as my drawing skills are weak. SO any drawing people out there want to be part of my new project? These pictures may give you a rough idea of what I'm thinking, but they also may not (I just wanted to showcase my collection of fake flowers/mini dinosaurs)

If you like drawing realistic-ish things with the aid of a computer then email me! andiereeves@gmail.com . You don't have to be from South Africa (yeah, Ukraine! I see you on my Statistics page!)

yay ♡

new book!

I bought a nice new book with a generous book voucher for Exclusive Books! I've been wanting some kind of fashion design-y book for a while now and after a long browsing session I settled on this one. Although I couldn't ever imagine studying anything, even fashion, I do love learning things. I've got more than enough books on actual sewing skills, now I'm trying to hone my designing skills a little.

would you look at this jacket?! It is amazing. I've been contemplating taking all my teddies that I can't bring myself to throw away and turning them into a headboard for my bed, but now I want a jacket made of Oinky, Benjamin Bear and co…!

london yay!

in exactly two weeks I will be on a plane to London! HOORAY I am TOO excited.

I'm excited for many things; for buying tickets to see Matilda:The Musical (music by Tim Minchin ! ), for a break from this intense Cape Town heat, for revisiting old favourite places, and for extreme exploration expeditions.

I have been raising my blood pressure to near nosebleed-point daily by checking out events/tours/fun things on TimeOut, as well as by doing some online window shopping. I know it's a cliche and everyone who ever went on a one week holiday to London says it but Topshop is still one of my best ever shops. Lately they have upped their game in a big way, mainly by bringing in designs from my 2 favourites of the moment…

Mary Katrantzou for Topshop

look at these lovely dresses! Their print + their shape are simply magical and I love their Ming vase-y-ness. They look like works of art.

I've been counting sleeps 'til the release of her range but I blinked and missed it as pretty much everything has sold out already! I wanted this dress most of all

I felt very sad for a bit then realised that £350 is almost my whole budget for my trip/an outrageous amount of money to spend on a dress. At this stage in life anyway.

Meadham Kirchhoff

I have expressed my love for these boys before. Topshop has an adorable t-shirt of theirs for sale

and (most excitingly) NAIL WRAPS!

I feel very passionately about nail wraps (yeah! life's good!) and seeing these babies make me want to cry with love. They were designed with the collection that set my heart on fire so naturally I must own them OR ELSE.

shoo-wee, is anyone else sweating?!

red polka dots

My friend had her 50's-themed 21st party and asked me to make her a dress...

it's probably one of my favourite things I've ever made and she seemed to like it too! I know the picture's a little blurry but it's fun so whatever (p.s. that's me on the left)

It fitted her (perfect) body like a dream and her hair + make-up further enhanced her whole 50's-house-wife's-big-night-out look

Thank you for letting me make your dress, you looked incredible ♡

p.s. If you have an exciting event of sorts and want a custom-made something just ask!

sweet swap

I got a request for a custom-made laptop cover from a friend who lives in the USA and instead of her paying me we did a swap

I made her a Cowboy-print lappy cover that fits her 13'' MacBook like a little dream

and I trusted her to choose me an item of similar value from a favourite shop over there and am SO HAPPY with what I got…

This bea-u-tiful floral top from American Apparel!

I had recently admired it online and have since had it haunt me from American Apparel advertisement sidebars all over the web (don't you hate/love how they do that?!). I hadn't even mentioned it to her though, she just knew I'd love it, what a girl!

THANK YOU 'khi khi USA' for my wonderful gift; it was a pleasure swapping with you!

makeover : bedside table

I've had this bedside table for years now but only just realised how ugly the top of it is. It's covered in paint/sticker residue/the price tag, shocking!

I found some great contact plastic at Yu Tom with a floral print on it (they had loads of other fun prints too) and cut it to size. Then I used the skills I gained covering textbooks in high school and carefully stuck it to the top of my table...

YAY!

I think it looks just lovely. Who knew contact plastic could spruce up a bit of furniture so easily? Go try it for yourself!
