D.I.Y. Sunday: revamp your desktop

Here's something fun to spruce up your (probably-already-pretty-snazzy) Mac. You know those boring icons on your dock? Well, you can change the icons to your own fun pictures, wild!

I got the tutorial from Color Me Katie ages ago and finally got around to doing it:

PRETTY EASY, I promise. The only thing is I found it doesn't work for all icons. I think the general rule is it works for programs you've added (VLC / Photoshop etc) but not for Apple's things (iTunes / Safari etc) BUT rules were made to be broken (!) so try whichever ones on your lappy, maybe it'll work for you.

For my 21st I got this beautiful little drawers-on-wheels thing from my aunt.

It's perfect for storing threads/needles etc but at the moment it only houses some a few of my most favourite items in my life

my little i-pod with it's wonderfully ghetto gold cover which I got at HMV looong ago. Oh, I know what you're thinking; where's the screen, man?! It shines through when you turn your i-pod on! AH!

My Little Red Riding Hood wooden ring. I'd been admiring this BEAUT in the usually-gross shop Octopus for a while and then my boy went out and got it for me, sa-weet! 

My actual real-life Polaroid of Michael Jackson. OH I love this thing! It's been Prestick-ed up in every room I've ever lived in since he came to South Africa on tour in 1997. My dad was on an unrelated shoot at a hotel at the time and just spotted MJ and took this picture of Michael in his aviators and full regalia. Plus it totally looks like he has a halo ♥

I still have my school shoes (the style goes by the romantic name of Mary Jane) as a friend convinced me one day I'd find myself wanting to wear them again.

I must admit hey're growing on me…I can't believe we used to have to wear the same pair of shoes every day…! At one stage they were bound together by cello-tape  

me and my bestie in music class decorated our heels with glitter, tippex and wordz. We thought this name for Charlie Parker + Dizzy Gillespie was just wonderful

Shower caps hey. I don't know anyone else who uses these..? A shower cap used to protect my badly straightened hair back in my teen yearz which took SO long to get 'straight' that I'd go for as long as possible without a wash (yay for talcum powder, the poor man's Dry Shampoo), dreading getting it wet again. 

I've been wanting to make myself a shower cap ever since I found a pattern in my new Cath Kidston book

…so I bought that water-proof leopard-print fabric and…

yeah! it was quite easy too. I got a pat on the back from myself for my first attempt at making my own bias binding

I also discovered it is IMPOSSIBLE to look even mildly attractive in a shower cap

oh wait, unless you're Beyonce. Obviously To be honest I'm getting a little sick of her outshining me in everything.

Such a good idea! I was big on drawing in my youth but am quite rubbish at it now. My speciality was drawing two very beautiful girls and writing their names (Courtney/Joanna/Cassandra etc) in cursive, and on the opposite page two hideous girls with Gertrude/Bethel etc scribbled underneath. I don't know why I was such a shallow child but I filled entire books with this format, occasionally borrowing my brother's 'fancy khokis' (highlighters) to colour their hair in.
