red polka dots

My friend had her 50's-themed 21st party and asked me to make her a dress...

it's probably one of my favourite things I've ever made and she seemed to like it too! I know the picture's a little blurry but it's fun so whatever (p.s. that's me on the left)

It fitted her (perfect) body like a dream and her hair + make-up further enhanced her whole 50's-house-wife's-big-night-out look

Thank you for letting me make your dress, you looked incredible ♡

p.s. If you have an exciting event of sorts and want a custom-made something just ask!

sweet swap

I got a request for a custom-made laptop cover from a friend who lives in the USA and instead of her paying me we did a swap

I made her a Cowboy-print lappy cover that fits her 13'' MacBook like a little dream

and I trusted her to choose me an item of similar value from a favourite shop over there and am SO HAPPY with what I got…

This bea-u-tiful floral top from American Apparel!

I had recently admired it online and have since had it haunt me from American Apparel advertisement sidebars all over the web (don't you hate/love how they do that?!). I hadn't even mentioned it to her though, she just knew I'd love it, what a girl!

THANK YOU 'khi khi USA' for my wonderful gift; it was a pleasure swapping with you!

makeover : bedside table

I've had this bedside table for years now but only just realised how ugly the top of it is. It's covered in paint/sticker residue/the price tag, shocking!

I found some great contact plastic at Yu Tom with a floral print on it (they had loads of other fun prints too) and cut it to size. Then I used the skills I gained covering textbooks in high school and carefully stuck it to the top of my table...

YAY!

I think it looks just lovely. Who knew contact plastic could spruce up a bit of furniture so easily? Go try it for yourself!

magic view

How great is Derren Brown? I think he is amazing so my thoughtful fella bought me his book, Confessions of a Conjuror, for Christmas.

It's one of those books you read next to your laptop as he's constantly mentioning interesting things you simply have to Google. I haven't finished yet but just read a bit where he mentioned his love for a trick called The Miser's Dream. Here is the video, it is mind-blowing

my mom ♡

It's my mother's birthday today! My mom is one of the loveliest women you'll ever meet; her happiness and enthusiasm is totally contagious, as is her insane + loud laughter, and her ridiculous catch-phrases. We share a deep love and appreciation of clothes, our favourite lunch is popcorn + jelly tots, and together we are an extremely excitable pair and can often be seen shaking our fists about in excitement.

As well as being fun, kind and able to get along with just about anyone, she is also cursed with the burden of being terribly beautiful. She was scouted just after she left high school and spent many years travelling the world as a model. One time she hung out with Guns 'n Roses, so she's pretty cool.

(taken by my dad)

Often my parents would let me take the days off school to be my mom's child in shoots (clearly they had their priorities in order). Here are just a few of us in action :

Happy birthday Mama, you are so beautiful inside and out and I love you a lot!

blue flowers

IT'S SO HOT. I am dying/feeling motivated to make summer-y dresses in an air-conditioned room. Here's one I made a while ago that my lovely friend bought from me. I love the floral print so much and was so excited to find a pair of high heels made of the same fabric, they looked like this

I returned to Zoom with money to buy them for myself but they were gone. Now I am left with an extreme feeling of remorse. I get this feeling often; it is all-consuming. My life is so meaningful.

don't wear this: Halterneck Dress

I am writing this for the lady I saw in Spar earlier today wearing a dress that made her appear to be carrying 2 extra grocery packets, on her chest.

Although there is always an exception or two I generally do not entertain halternecks. This dress-style in particular is the worst offender:

I know, I know: Iconic! Marilyn Monroe! But whatever, I truly hate this dress, surely I'm not alone on this one? I can't look at the boob section and not think "two full grocery bags".

I didn't even have to tweak the bags in this photo, they fitted perfectly! I hope you see this image the next time you pull out that thick-strapped-halter-number and you tell yourself "DON'T WEAR THIS" ♥ thank you in advance
