friday friday friday

GOOD NEWSTOPSHOP POP UP SHOP. Not only a fun thing to say but also soon a reality for Kloof Street, CAPE TOWN. Can you believe?! I imagine it's going to be over-priced old stock but OMG I'm still going to be first in line! YAY. 24 Kloof Street, 12th July, see you there

MORE GOOD NEWS…The ultimate good news, discovering you've qualified for the Olympics.

more elated photos here

BOUGHT…These booties I've been wanting for ages finally went on sale, one pair in my size, hello FATE!

WISH…I could go see 'VIVA FOREVER', the musical based around songs of the Spice Girls, written by Jennifer Saunders ('Absolutely Fabulous') RIGHT NOW. Launching in December at the Piccadilly Theatre, it's not based on their lives, but uses their songs and has a 'girl power' theme to it.
reunited!

WATCH…More Olympics-themed things, this video was described as 'guaranteed to make you cry' and oooh boy, it got me!

THIS WEEKEND…Finally watching Downton Abbey. All of it.

flowers in the window

today I made our ugly burglar bars pretty with some bunting

oh and a cheeky cross-stitch

this is my second attempt at cross-sttich ever and I made the pattern all by myself (and an online cross-stich lettering generator) ! Our house is usually pretty good about cleaning up but sometimes you need some hand-stitched swear words to keep you in check.

DIY Sunday ♡ : Glitter Heels

glitter-y high heels!
Inspired by these Miu Miu-esque Topshop beauties I've been eyeing out for a while

YOU WILL NEED:
-pencil
-brush
-sticky tape
-some snazzy heels with a nice & thick heel
-fabric glue
-GLITTER!

1. pencil out the shape you're going to fill with glitter. Put sticky tape along the lines for a nice crisp finish.

2. (optional: I was worried the glitter might look thin and sparse so painted a coat of gold fabric paint. This was kind of unnecessary, but looked pretty cool … hello next DIY idea!)

3. get your brush out and paint the section with glue. I used glitter glue for extra sparkle

4. put a bowl on your lap and shake glitter over the glue-y bit NOTE: this is immensely satisfying. Bang the shoes around a bit to get rid of excess glitter but it should stick pretty well. Remove sticky tape (also pretty satisfying. You're welcome!)

!!!

This is the only photo I could manage right now, better ones to come!

SO that was fun hey? Other ideas: glitter-y toe-caps / all-over glitter extravaganza / glitter everywhere-but-the-heel

any cobblers out there wanting to do a shoe-collaboration, holler at me!

i loves you porgy

look what I found on my lunch break today...

a little gold pug!

I literally spotted this doggy in the window, and as soon as I'd bought it I ran into a Boston Terrier outside so OBVIOUSLY one of the best days of my year / ever.

riding in cars with dogs

couldn't resist scanning this picture of dogs with their heads out car windows (found in an old issue of Real Simple)

on the sunny side of the street

The streets of London seem to be an outlet for the creatives of the city, from designated graffiti spots to mixing the contemporary and amusing with the old and grand.

There have been a few campaigns using the same idea; give artists the same object/shape, let them do whatever they want with it, hide the pieces around the city. A massive game of hide & seek!

I loved coming across friendly elephants in alleyways in 2010…

...around Easter time this year there were eggs everywhere…

…and now artists have been revamping the red phone box. Here are some of my favourites

DIY Sunday ♡ : cross-stitch

I went to a cross stitch workshop on Saturday hosted by Lauren Fowler. It was so lovely! There were cupcakes and Lauren is nice and has a tattoo of knitting needles + wool (!). I'd never done it before but now I feel like OMG I LOVE X-STITCH 4EVER! Plus I kinda rock at it, obviously.

this is what you can learn to make if you buy one of her cross stitch sets (R280)
do it!

dearest dad ♡

happy father's day!

to celebrate here is a photograph of a Mr Sammy Manboy (I think that's what it says anyway) tap dancing at Green Market Square, Cape Town, sometime long ago

to collect

some things to admire/procrastinate over

  • the internet/the world (same thing RIGHT!) have been going nuts for Valentino's Resort collection. I say: believe the hype.

ALSO how nice-looking is that model? Such a babe.

  • this time, it's personal, a fascinating and decadent look at high-fashion models off-duty, is my latest tumblr-time-waster. Caroline Brasch Nielsen (the model above) features a lot with her model pals, just being silly, eating food, hangin' out, pretending to be normal humans. It's addictive.

fun!

seeing these girls goofin' around reminded me of these models from the '80s

  • This pretty red dress is back on my radar

(alexa wore it a while ago).
I know it's naughty/lazy but I really want to copy it and have it for my own

  • Another internet addiction (thanks) is typing words like 'sugar skull' + 'ice cream' + 'tattoo' into sugarspoon.com and finding these

This website is one of the most exciting I've come across in a long time. It is full of designs that you can order to be printed on a fabric of your choice!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you are a sew-er and, like me, think fabric shopping is even better than clothes shopping then get browsing. Pricing starts at around R120 and up a metre which is a bit sickening, but the selection is so unique and unreal!

have a wonderful weekend!
